Patent No. D1,030,942
The Texas Star target system is meticulously engineered to provide shooters with a rigorous and engaging training experience. Its rotating design and robust construction make it a valuable asset for enhancing marksmanship and target acquisition skills.
Dynamic Rotating Target for Enhanced Training
The Texas Star features five 8-inch diameter plates, each 3/8-inch thick and crafted from SR500 ballistic steel, mounted on a 48-inch diameter hub. When a plate is struck and released from its spring retention pocket, the change in weight distribution causes the hub to rotate unpredictably. This movement challenges shooters to adjust their aim and timing, simulating real-world scenarios and improving overall shooting proficiency.
Robust and Durable Construction
Designed for high-volume use, the Texas Star boasts a heavy-duty steel frame with a stainless steel shaft for enhanced weather resistance. The inclusion of two industrial-grade, maintenance-free sealed pillow bearings ensures smooth rotation and longevity. A heavy-gauge cover protects the bearings from falling plates, maintaining the system's integrity over time.
User-Friendly Assembly and Resetting
One of the standout features of the Texas Star is its straightforward assembly process. Requiring only a single 1/2-inch bolt, the target can be fully assembled in approximately 10 minutes using a 5/8-inch wrench. Resetting the target is equally efficient; shooters can lift the spring and insert the stem of each plate back into its pocket, allowing one person to reset all five plates in about 20 seconds.
Versatility Across Shooting Disciplines
The Texas Star is rated for use with handguns, rifles, and shotguns (lead buckshot from 10 yards minimum and lead slugs from 100 yards minimum — never steel shot), accommodating a wide range of calibers and shooting styles. It is commonly utilized in 3-Gun and USPSA matches and serves as an effective training tool for law enforcement and tactical programs that require proficiency with moving targets. Minimum recommended shooting distances are 10–15 yards for non-magnum handguns, 25 yards for magnum handguns, and 100 yards for centerfire rifles (200 yards for loads over 3,000 fps at the muzzle). Magnum rifles like .300 Win Mag are not recommended on 3/8" steel.
Why SR500 Instead of AR500?
SR500 (“Shooting Range” 500) is SSAB's Ramor SR500, a ballistic steel made specifically for shooting targets. Standard AR500 is an abrasion-resistant wear plate originally made for industrial equipment, and it typically tests around 477–534 Brinell. SR500 carries a guaranteed minimum hardness of 500 Brinell, so the strike face resists pitting and cratering longer and your target stays smoother and safer, round after round. If you’ve been shopping for AR500 targets, SR500 is the upgrade.
